Term Overview



Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Please see below for this term’s outline for the Year 7 students.

Religious Education
The students will be engaged in the letters written by St. Paul. We will delve into the New Testament and learn about Paul’s journey of conversion.

History
Building on Term 1’s unit on China’s Terracotta Warriors, the students will explore the impact Emperor Qin had on both ancient and modern times. Students will learn about the importance of the rivers in ancient (and modern) China, the Silk Road, and The Great Wall. Inquiry learning and research skills will be a focus for the students during this unit.  

English
The Year 7 students will be undertaking a Persuasive Writing unit during the first part of Term 2. They will further consolidate the persuasive writing techniques and skills learnt in Term 1. This will also assist them with the writing task as part of the NAPLAN test.  All Year 7 students will also experience intensive grammar, spelling, punctuation and lessons focusing on comprehension.

Science / Geography / Design Technology / The Arts
This term, the students will be learning about Chemical Science. They will conduct various experiments using household equipment and items such as baking soda, flour, Epson salts etc.  Students will gather information about solubility, compounds, elements and mixtures and explore these through experiments done during class time.

Mathematics
Mathematics this term will cover all strands including topics such as; fractions, averages (mean, median, mode and range), rounding, decimal fractions volume and integers. The students will also solve life-related word problems to consolidate their learning across the term.

Health
In Health this term, the students will look at the new Daniel Morcombe curriculum.  This focuses the Year 7 students on identifying risks and justifying and applying safe practices.  Students should be able to “Recognise, React and Report” on any situation they believe to be unsafe. 

Cultural Literacy, Physical Education and Music
Weekly lessons will continue this term for students to be engaged in Cultural Literacy, Physical Education and Music delivered by specialist teachers in those areas.

Homework
Homework will be given out on a Thursday and will be due the following Thursday, giving students the weekend to complete tasks (this is to assist families with sporting/cultural commitments during the week).

Please familiarise yourself with the 7 Green blog (address below) as it will include lots of great information, photos and videos of your child’s classroom experience.

What else is happening?
Interschool Sport continues this term with training on Thursdays and games on Fridays. The students will also take part in Dance Fever. This is being held on Tuesday mornings. NAPLAN testing will be held in week 4 this term.
