Welcome to 7 Green

Welcome back from the holidays! We hope you and your family had a safe and restful holiday.  We would like to extend a special welcome to any new families and students.
This year the two Year 7 classes will be taught by, Ms Margaret Carabetta and Mrs Shannon Cullen (7 Green) and Mr Nathan Tait (7 Maroon).
Homework
Year 7 Green students will be given homework on a weekly basis.  It has been designed in a way that students should be able to complete tasks independently.   The homework will include a variety of spelling words, reading log and various mathematics problems connected to class learning for that week.  Therefore, this style of homework will consolidate the work from the classroom whilst developing time management skills and responsibility.
Learning for Term One
Religion – The class will discuss, design and create a Vision Statement for each class.  This year the focus is on Space.  Further to this, the students will take part in a unit about Core Values and Leadership.  They will explore various prominent figures in society and what Core Values these people possess.  They will also explore scripture and discuss similarities and lessons from Jesus’ teachings to us, today.
English & The Arts – This term we will be covering narratives, in particular, short story writing.  Students will have an opportunity to write their own short story using techniques developed during class time.  Students will create a cover to accompany their short story.
History – We will be investigating the past and will give a basic introduction to the ancient worlds and Imperial China.
Science – This term we will cover Physical Sciences in particular Forces.  Students will explore Newton’s Laws of Motion and engage in various experiments.
Mathematics – Mathematics this term will cover order of operations, area and linear and non linear equations.
Health – For health this term we will be looking at child safety and implementing the new Daniel Morcombe curriculum. Students will engage with particular lessons around recognition, reacting and reporting.
Cultural Literacy, Physical Education and Music – Weekly lessons will continue this term for students to be engaged in Cultural Literacy, Physical Education (Monday) and Music (Tuesday) delivered by specialist teachers in those areas.

Year 7 Camp
This term Year 7 students will participate in St Bernardine’s School camp at Lake Ainsworth Sport and Recreation Centre.   The camp will be held from Monday 10/03/14 to Wednesday 12/03/14. The program has been developed to provide worthwhile educational outcomes, in conjunction with confidence building.
Uniform
Students in Year 7 are expected to wear their sports uniform on Mondays and Fridays.  On Tuesday, Thursday and Wednesday students are expected to wear their full day uniform.  As the students in Year 7 are leaders of the school, we expect students to be in correct school uniform as outlined in the student handbook.  If a student is not able to wear the correct uniform they are expected to have a note of explanation from home.
